Arianna Moses Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.

foutainoflife This moves at a good pace. The acting isn't too bad. The story was a bit shaky for me because I keep waiting for the character's back stories. It kept my attention but it wasn't much more than ordinary.

Nigel P One minute, Eve is a neat and cute young lady, 21 years old and declaring her love for her boyfriend on a webcam, limiting herself to a life of marriage and children with wholesome beau Ronnie (Kris Kjornes). The next we see her as she is 'now' - chained and sweaty and bloody, in her underwear, a prisoner of Phil (Richard Tyson).Eve overpowers the man and makes her escape, only to find the building is in too remote an area to get help. So she returns, finds Phil has other female victims scattered around, and takes him on an enforced tour of his other girls, all chained up and clearly part of a sex trafficking business. Perversely, the girls have become so conditioned to their environment, they are not happy to be freed, which threatens to make Eve's mercy mission twistedly redundant.And yet she perseveres. And while the 76 minutes are filled with their fair share of running around and screaming, Director José Manuel Cravioto ensures events are tight enough to pursue a build-up of coherence and tension, so that the twist at the end is satisfying indeed.The acting is fine throughout, with Tyson giving Phil a measured quality that makes it understandable some former victims succumb to a form of Stockholm Syndrome. As this film's 'final girl' Eve, Tina Ivlev puts in a fiery and intense performance. Not for one moment do you not believe in her. Recommended.

Stephen Abell This is a strange film because even though it's good and it takes a different look at the kidnapping genre, it just doesn't quite work. What the writers give the audience is a journey through the dark side of human trafficking. When Eve's captor comes back to the basement room she's being held in a few days has passed. As he apologises for his late arrival Eve grabs a brick she's worked free and beats the man bloody. While he fights consciousness, she undoes the lock to her chain and chains her captor. She quickly runs through the house and out the front door... She finds she's stranded in the middle of a desert, with no other house in sight. There are no keys in the van parked outside. The phone isn't working. And as she searches the house for food and clothes she finds Polaroids of other girls. When she confronts her captor and threatens to kill him he tells her that she will be killing them too. This then sets the pair on a road trip to free the Polaroid girls.This opening sequence has some interesting camera shots, for instance, there's the scene where she's pulling the telephone cord trying to find the receiver. It's not until the phone falls onto the floor that you realise the camera is on the phone. There are also a few interesting camera angles which help to create a disturbing and disjointed atmosphere. However, not all of the shots work, but it is nice to see a director trying to do something different. There's also a lot of shaky camera work when it isn't even needed. Most directors use quick cuts along with the shaky camera to build excitement. However, in the scene where Eve has beaten Phil to a bloody mess and he hasn't got the strength to move, Cravioto incorporates this technique... and it doesn't work. It would have been better to slow it down. Have Eve search for the key. Show Phil coming too. Eve still searching. Phil groggy with blood running down his face. Eve pulls the keys from his pocket as he reaches out to grab her hand. Eve shakes his grasp of easily and locks his leg into the chains. But hey, that's just me.However, not everything goes to plan as the pair go from one girl to another. The inventive thing the writers have done here is to have the story unfold along the way. I will say this, there are some twisted and people along the way. It's also here that some of the elements and characters don't appear or feel realistic.I think the reason this film doesn't work is that the director and writers were trying too hard to do something new and original and you can tell. A lot of these little things distract the audience from the movie and the story. This isn't good as you want to keep the audience involved and entertained.As for the acting, both of the major actors are excellent in their portrayal of their characters. Though I do prefer Tyson's coolness in the face of adversity bad guy. He plays Eve just right to stop her from killing him. There maybe a chance to escape and rectify this problem. It's this matter-of-factness which gives the character a chilling feel. The rest of the cast also do a great job though the first girl Eve tries to rescue does appear to be your standard stupid screaming slasher chic... though thinking about it this could have been satire... especially in the way she's dispatched.If you like films like I Spit On Your Grave then you may enjoy this film. It is worth at least one viewing if you're a revenge fan and the story is different enough to carry you through all the niggling little flaws and issues.

Making a harrowing escape, she ransacks the home she's been held prisoner in and discovers that other girls like her are experiencing a similar fate. Bound and determined for justice and retribution, she sets her sights on vindication by forcing her captor to reveal the locations of these women so they too can be saved, at any cost.Independent horror films are a dime a dozen, or so the expression goes. You can get cheap creature flicks, poorly acted and ridiculous slasher films, and on the rare occasion you can get a brutal and original film that merits your attention.Bound to Vengeance is an intense film unlike most, it is gruesome and refuses to look away at the horrifying reality of sex trafficking and sexual assault. The director Jose Manuel Cravioto does a commendable job at highlighting the trauma these women have suffered without ever actually showing the action of abuse. Through subtle hints, flash backs, and held close up shots on scenery, he conveys to the audience the startling reality these women have endured for an unspoken but long stretch of time. It is amazing what Cravioto does in creating terror and menace just through a held close-up shot of a closed door.The dynamic between the two leads, Eve and her captor, Phil, is complex and mystifying. Tina Ivlev shines as the strong and determined woman who is willing to die in order to seek her vengeance. Richard Tyson plays a manipulative scumbag who, though bound, uses his words to try to wriggle out of his predicament. They are believable, primal, and scary. Realistically, they bring to life the actions of a predator and victim within the realms of human behavior. At no point does the film feel far reaching and taking too many liberties, and perhaps that is the scariest part.There is a component of the film that weakens its effectiveness and presence, and that is the use of the camera footage of Eve with her boyfriend Ronnie. Yes, there is a purpose to it however there surely was an alternative way to convey this vital information without coping out through such a weak introduction. The use of this footage lessens the power and strength of the film overall, and comes across as a cheap answer to a film conundrum, like the exhausted technique of voiceovers.Being thrown into the survival environment created by Bound to Vengeance as an audience member is heart racing and engaging. The film does not waste your time nor deliver cheap formulaic horror we have become accustomed to.
