Bongwater Audience Reviews

Matialth Good concept, poorly executed.
Curapedi I cannot think of one single thing that I would change about this film. The acting is incomparable, the directing deft, and the writing poignantly brilliant.
ThedevilChoose When a movie has you begging for it to end not even half way through it's pure crap. We've all seen this movie and this characters millions of times, nothing new in it. Don't waste your time.
Dana An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.
Alem Spago I have seen this movie three nights ago and I can honestly tell you I liked it. If you are wondering should you watch it or not - I would suggest you to consider the situation and circumstances the first. "Bongwater" is not kind of a movie you would like to see with your girlfriend or after a family gathering evening. From the other side - if you are sitting there with your friends looking for a movie to brighten your evening up, or if you are alone maybe - go for it! "Bongwater" seems like a typical stoner's' movie, but I believe it's much beneath that. Calling it such would be equal to calling "That 70s Show" typical stoner's' stuff, hence this TV series became sort of a cult. "Bongwater" is kind of a movie that is going to make you laugh out loud while tickling your imagination about the same thing you are laughing at. If you see through it couple of times I believe you will find it much deeper than it seems at the first glance.David, starred by Luke Wilson, is a small-pocket, short-run dope dealer. The movie follows his ups and downs with emphasis on his unhappy relationship with Serena. Things are turning from bad to worse as movie progresses, in emerging ironic manner. If you are in a mood to laugh, brace yourselves. I found whole movie quite funny myself. Few scenes really knocked socks off my feet and I didn't expect to see that kind of scenes inside a movie produced back in late 90s.Bongwater is a great stuff to watch on a guys' night or if you are alone and wondering what to watch to make you cheerful. I am taking it three points away for slightly blurry plot at few places, as you will see it yourself. You might lose your end of the rope here and there as the plot is running down the rabbit hole and story switches ups and downs unexpectedly fast.If you want to laugh - you got it. If you want to relax - you got that one as well. In case you are looking for some sort of "Da Vinci's Code" stuff - look elsewhere.
Kame2000 Bongwater, although its title misleads many people to think of it as a stoner film, is a solid drama/comedy title in the vein of films like Drugstore Cowboy, an 80's film featuring Matt Dillon, or Trainspotting, except with less drug use and more sexual promiscuity - Bongwater, in short, is not a drug-centric movie. However, it is interesting because of its cast. Its obviously bare-bones script requires careful acting from its stars to give it a little extra life. Overall, maybe not enough of that extra energy is awarded to the by-the-rules directing style, but ultimately, what comes out is a solid, engaging flick, worth watching all the way through.
librlart I had very low expectations when I rented this, but I was pleasantly surprised and amused. So many of the characters in it were heightened versions of people I've known, hence I do wonder if it portrays an older generation of "stoner." It also portrays regional scenes from NYC and the NW that may not appeal to people elsewhere; others probably won't see the humor in the film. Although it's a comedy, it doesn't present side-splitting jokes with setups; the comedy is in the life the people are leading and the turmoil that follows in their wake. The plot is haphazard if not absurd, which almost demands the ridiculous ending and opening scenes and provided me with a relief from typical formulaic stories. The plot doesn't drive the story, and you sort of just wander into each scene following the impulsive whims of the character featured in it.I thought that the vacillating chemistry between Witt and Wilson really worked for the film; their lack of direction in life is totally reflected in their attraction, jealousy, and ambivalence towards each other, and their subsequent attempts to use each other to fill that void.Alicia Witt's character is much richer than, say, "Two Weeks Notice," and almost as bizarre as her role in Twin Peaks. She's totally unpredictable and never does what you'd expect someone in her position to do. Cases in point: the scenes when they leave the NY party, and the scenes where we first meet her and then, unbelievably find her flirting with Wilson. Amy Locane, on the other hand, doesn't have a role that gives her much depth to work with.Brittany Murphy and Luke Wilson have an oppositional chemistry that really let their talents play off each other. Hard to believe Jack Black is the same guy who later starred in King Kong! His is a small part in the film, but unforgettable, and the interlude with him really captures the spirit of the NW wilderness hippies I've met.
marchingleoproductions My wife told me about this movie many years ago and every other month since then. So, my friend bought it for her so we could see it and to shut her up about it. We found that it is a really great mid to late nineties feeling movie with real emotion(that which comes from our side of the screen where we found ourselves wanting to beat the *&#^ out of Serina). Ah, to move on, it was a nicely done and very funny movie. Great job to the director Richard Sears, and to the nubile cast(that's why you are all famous now). I recommend this movie to all of those people that enjoy b-rate films with that little extra something... If the day ever comes where I were able to make a movie at some caliber equal to this, I would truly be happy. I wish that I could find more by this director too. Everything seems to be so very vague on the internet, and the book I acquired for distribution co's, doesn't have any order information on his movies either. Perhaps I need to talk to the guy that was looking up Mr. Sears contact information or Mr. Sears himself. So...
