Blood Glacier Audience Reviews

Comwayon A Disappointing Continuation
Abbigail Bush what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.
Deanna There are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.
Darin One of the film's great tricks is that, for a time, you think it will go down a rabbit hole of unrealistic glorification.
jfrentzen-942-204211 This is a much better than average entry for a monster movie homage, in which an isolated scientific team is subjected to horrible animal and insect mutations emanating from an anomalous, ghastly looking blood glacier -- in particular, an homage to Roger Corman and even the prototypical "thing that lives in the cave" that goes back pre-Corman. Think any 50s monster movie that had something evil or monstrous creeping around Bronson Canyon. References to latter day monster flicks, such as Carpenter's The Thing and Cronenberg's The Fly, seem to arise out of a singular sequence that shows one of the people transformed into a breeding ground for biting mutant flies that burrow out of his face and neck to attack what is left of the team. Well-directed moments of panic and monster attacks, as well as sardonic documenting of the human foibles that contribute to almost dooming the last surviving members of the team in the final act... a somewhat anti-climactic finale. Weren't there more insects in that cave, mutating? Performances are all good or better, with Gerhard Liebmann providing the tearing out the hair emotional roller-coastering needed to sustain the drama between monster sequences. The monster effects veered between good and too revealing. Some of the bird-creature puppet scenes are over-lit, revealing a papier mache-type creature effect. Other monster grotesques were adequately handled. The tension and scares come out of characterization, occasionally dimwitted or catty interactions among characters that contributes heavily to the team's failure, and the remote looking location including an impressively red blood-dripped glacier.
trashgang This German flick is hyped for only one reason. It's been compared every time to The Thing (1982) since it's been released. I must say that I understand why because some virus of living thing is hiding in bodies to transform them into nasty creatures. So far the comparison.I did like TheThing, it still is in my Top 5 all time horrors since I started watching horror in the early eighties. So I thought that this one should become a classic too for me but I wasn't happy at the end. It's not that there isn't any action or whatsoever but sometimes it was a bit too much about Janek (Gerhard Liebmann) and his lost love in a way that you know that they would fall in love again towards the end. On part of the effects and the horror itself it was okay but not that I will recommend it to friends. Of course it's low budget but some mutants are a bit cheesy, especially in the beginning. What I did like was when humans were attacked by the mutants. Just see the operation scene, that's well done. But I never was sitting there watching it with suspense. therefor as I said it had to much of blah blah sometimes. Still, it's worth seeing but maybe I expected to much due the hype, time will tell.Gore 1/5 Nudity 0/5 Effects 2,5/5 Story 3/5 Comedy 0/5
Barbara Smith I wish to preface this by saying that the version I watched was the dubbed version and the review is based on the assumption of accurate translation (which the quality of the dubbing may bring into question).Starting off on a positive note, the dog steals every scene that it is in and gives a wonderful performance. The effects weren't bad (though I am easy to please in this regard).A movie where one of the smarter characters says, "{That our results being outside of expectations} means that science has reached its limits" is certainly worrying. The portrayal of "science" and "scientists" in this movie is not merely inaccurate, but potentially dangerous. This may sound melodramatic, but ideas are the foundation upon which decisions are made and decisions made believing the "science" portrayed in this movie can only serve to hinder progress. Science is a method, not an answer and results being wrong means that the data was wrong (or incomplete) not that science has reached a limit. On a related note, every character in this film lacks basic reasoning skills. For example, *spoiler*if you discover a substance that can make chimeras that have already displayed hostility do you A)Immediately seek help/notify authorities B)Ensure that if something goes wrong you can remain safe C)Attempt to hide said substance for "science" and effectively sabotage all means of seeking help should you need it ? If you chose C, then you are a character in this movie. */spoiler* A large number have of movies have one to many of these idiots to move the plot along, but this movie consists entirely of them. This movie seems to throw in ideas like climate change and *spoiler*abortion*/spoiler* simply to have them in the movie. It does nothing with them. You could remove them and the story would be the same. The climate change thing seems like an after thought added at the end to rile up the late adopters, but it doesn't have anything to do with the antagonism in the movie at all. The movie even fails at being a propaganda film.
Flow Blood Glacier is a German movie, thus, the interest is bigger, the expectations lower and the tolerance higher! At least in my case, as a huge horror fan, I take them from where I find them: Hollywood must always prove why they call them self top producers, Asian cinema will have to provide the ghosts and twists, European ones are starting to catch up (especially from North and Spain that offers great thrillers, a step behind horror, but a small one) and South Americans at their beginning! Now let's talk about this one for instance: the story is good, the acting great, the atmosphere very chilly, the monsters are bad, the kills are usually dumb, the plot becomes quite predictable especially towards the very ending. Would I call it a flop or a step up from your usual "in a deserted place" horror? Neither, as it fits just perfectly in the middle, thus, it got a 6 from me, just so I'll encourage Germans to continue their work. You can clearly see that they put heart in their efforts, they search for the best actors, they try to build up a good tension, but probably cause of the lack of experience, they sometimes forget how to keep things straight. So all in all, for a cold late night, or one with a nice storm outside, this one will do the trick. You will feel the actors, their pain, despair and fear. Blood Glacier is a good add-on for one horror fan who wants to catch them all.Cheers!
