Info

“The Black Sabbath Story, Volume One” traces the roots and origins of Black Sabbath on an album by album basis and features rare performance footage including N.I.B. Paranoid, and War Pigs. Watch Ozzy and company slay the 300,000 plus crowd at California Jam 1974 with a blistering rendition of Children of the Grave. Black Sabbath is a highly visual band and one of the earliest metal groups to experiment with promotional videos. Their hilarious video for Sabbath Bloody Sabbath captures the spirit of similar videos put out by The Beatles. There are a couple of other songs here captured live from the “Never Say Die” tour including Snowblind, Symptom of the Universe, and Rock ’n’ Roll Doctor. All of these performances are professionally shot and Warner Bros. shows them uncut and without narration. “The Black Sabbath Story, Volume One” covers all the bases of the Ozzy years.

Black Sabbath: The Black Sabbath Story, Volume One Audience Reviews

Adeel Hail Unshakable, witty and deeply felt, the film will be paying emotional dividends for a long, long time.
Lidia Draper Great example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.
Tobias Burrows It's easily one of the freshest, sharpest and most enjoyable films of this year.
Dana An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.
Peter Walden This is a time capsule of a harder era in rock music when there were no other bands to compare against. These guys were the original heavy metal rockers. Amps and PA's were pretty basic and BIG. Anything they tried was brand new and to some of the critics somewhat radical. But they were good and because they kept their makeup simple- (2 guitarists, a drummer and a very wild front man) they were able to duplicate their studio sessions in live performances that set crowd attendance records wherever they went. This was never more evident than on this DVD in the live performance of Children of The Grave during an American tour. Equipment loaned, music honed, band stoned - Black Sabbath in full cry, pure magic. They also became masters of the tempo change like in this performance of War Pigs. I hasten to add that in this song, Ozzie crosses over lyrics between 2 versions of this song, I'm not sure he even knew which one he was singing! If the head bangers of today want to see the birth of heavy metal, look no further than these guys. Raw rock at its best.
