cprovencio9 I can't believe that this film did not make it in the box office, it cost 35 million to make and only grossed 4.5 million. In my humble opinion this has to be Angelina Jolie's best picture ever. The credits in the end sums it up well: "This film is dedicated to all relief workers and the millions of people who are victims of war and persecution. They continue to inspire us all with their courage and will to survive." In one of the emotional revetting scenes she is giving a speech to her peers of UN workers and organizations breaking down while see is recollecting the plight of refugees and the futility of the work being done on their behave. Interestingly, Angelina Jolie did volunteer work for the same United Nations organization her character plays in the film. She was ultimately named a UN goodwill ambassador and in 2003 published some journals she wrote of her experiences, titled "Notes from My Travels", to raise funds for refugee relief.

chadestep I am upset to see that the overall rating for this movie Hopefully posterity will be kinder to it than that. It is a very good, well-acted, well-written and well-filmed movie. Apparently, though, it is too subtle for many viewers.The humanitarian situation it shows is reality. The characters may be fictional, and they may not be representative of the typical relief worker - but they aren't supposed to be. This is a story of those particular two people, and how their feelings for each other grow out of the humanitarian work they are embroiled in. There's no separating the love story from the relief efforts, because she falls in love with him because of his commitment to those efforts. It's true that, at the end in Chechnya, she is more interested in him than in the local situation, but there are two very good reasons for this: One, unlike in Ethiopia and Cambodia she was only there to find him; she wasn't involved in some relief work there, so obviously his safety was foremost in her mind. And two, and more importantly, if she managed to save him, he could have continued being the man she fell in love with; continued his courageous commitment to fight death and suffering. So, I repeat, the love story and the humanitarian subject matter of this movie cannot been separated.This was an extremely well-structured, rare, thought-provoking and sobering type of movie that needs to be showed over and over again and people need to get involved and learn

teresaavan This was absolutely one of the best movies I have seen in a long time after "discovering" the intensely dark and handsome Clive Owen In "King Arthur", I wanted MORE of him and started looking up his movies to rent/OWN? When saw the story line for this one HAD to check it out and my husband and I watched such a tragic-(because these situations are based on true life people and the suffering they're enduring as I write this), coupled by Nick's losing battle to save whom he can and Angelina's heart goes out to his cause enough to bring her to the front-lines to help. I had to cover my eyes in some parts, not being able to watch some of the horrors of surgery w/o anesthesia in a hospital as backwards as something out of the Old West and a baby ripped from it's mother by angry soldiers and having a live hand grenade tossed in it's hands only to have the pin pulled by the child by accident, thus taking the life of Nick's partner in his attempt to save the child's life by being shot by the soldier in cold blood. The starving, sick people who are helpless and in constant siege by the horrors of war and supplies that cannot get to them. I cried with Nick and Sarah, I was seduced by the emotion of their love for each other and was left saddened in the end that Nick would probably never make his daughter aware that he is her real father because he knew it would likely make matters worse for her if she knew. The images in this film will be with me for days to come!!!! Beautiful movie that showed compassion, strength to do what you know is right against all odds and that love is possible no matter WHERE you are!!!! Clive and Angelina were beautiful together and it's been sometime since a movie moved me to utter tears!!!!

Laleh Soltan I had hoped when I first saw the Film in theatres that it would shake Americans out of their provincial apathy. However, it has taken 5 years for Hollywood to sit up and take notice. It is gratifying to see some movie stars using their position and wealth to adopt children from war torn or starving nations. Naturally, Ms. Jolie leads the way with her efforts. She is a role model for people everywhere and her actions should be applauded. As an American who has traveled to some of the poorest nations including Afghanistan, South Africa, the villages of Iran, the former Soviet Union; I have seen first hand the courage and the appreciation for life that citizens of these countries display.
