Great Film overall

It's fun, it's light, [but] it has a hard time when its tries to get heavy.

It's funny, it's tense, it features two great performances from two actors and the director expertly creates a web of odd tension where you actually don't know what is happening for the majority of the run time.

Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.

Enjoyed this one. I'm not much of a Jack Black fan but even he was tolerable this time out. Mos Def and Danny Glover are really likable, and the amusing conceit of Fat's Waller's birthplace about to be demolished (it isn't really his birthplace!) centres an engaging plot.Ol Jack, having a paranoid conspiracy mentality, tries to sabotage an electric company power relay, with the result he's magnetised and accidentally wipes all the video tapes (remember them?) in Glover's video store. So Jack and Mos set about making their own versions of the films they wiped, hilariously passing them off as Swedish versions! This is a heart-warming film which is pretty funny to boot. It's also (ironically) pretty original, and we even get a cameo from Sigourney Weaver, who's film Ghostbusters kickstarts it all.So, yep, I liked it. Much rather watch this than Hangover and American Pie sequels any day. Why can't Hollywood do more films like this?

Be Kind Rewind is another quirky film directed by Michel Gondry, who directed the offbeat comedy, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. This is a film that lacks big special effects, but I would call this is a visual treat anyhow. The way the town of Passaic was depicted and how the fake films were made were a good treat for the eyes. The story itself isn't all that bad and is really interesting.Gondry's film is about a struggling VHS rental business whose building is about to get demolished, After a freak accident which involves the tapes being erased, one of the workers and his oddball friend come up with the scheme to make their own versions of each tape and make good money off it.The acting may have been somewhat weak. I normally like Jack Black, but he was mostly annoying. He did have some amusing moments though. Mos Def was pretty good, nothing special. I always liked Danny Glover as an actor and he gives another fine performance here.Overall, this is a good, visual film that has a very interesting concept. All the films that were being remade in this film were the best because I have actually seen all those films. A tighter screenplay and better acting could have made this film even better, but it's still a good film to enjoy. I rate this film 8/10.

The way they started the movie was somewhat good. I liked it. A little after the starting, the movie was a bit humorous and funny. Can be enjoyed. After the tapes were erased and they start to shoot the tapes again, the parody is great. But, it must have gone a little long enough for each film. They try to bring in Sentimental Scenes in between but it dint actually work out i guess.Overall, i would say the movie has a great story and heavily Lacks screenplay especially when it nears an end. For a VERY FEW funny moments, the movie is watchable. If you are a Die-Hard fan of Black, just go watch it!

After a long week at work, I needed something to wind down to. I sat on my couch with some friends as we reminisced some of our childhood movies(in parody). To be honest, the parodies were a small part of the movie, but their super-dumb ideas somehow 'working-out' in favor of our heroes, added to the hilarity.Don't expect anything witty..this movie is pure slapstick. If you like movies like 'Dumb & Dumber' or 'Tommy Boy', you will enjoy this (all though Be Kind Rewind may not be as epic/timeless as those). Also, a word of caution..I know that not everyone can take Jack Black's comedy. If you are one of them, proceed at your own risk ;)
