Spoonixel Amateur movie with Big budget

M MALIK One of the main thing that attracts me towards any film is the cast & story i have seen plenty of autobiographical films and also films like this one Barney's Version is based on a novel but it is the finest film Paul Giamatti ever done.The Cast:when i saw the big names like Rosamund Pike & Minnie Driver listed i was immediately ready to watch as i am a big fan but main highlight is the actor Paul Giamatti he never impressed me he usually does bad moves and mostly comedy but here he goes absolute nuts specially in the climax giving his best performance in extremely serious manner.The dialogs are nicely written there are some comedy moments as the script demanded those i think its best to say its a very over the top silly film but with a great narrative.The only thing bothers is the editing section the runtime could have been trimmed easily many unnecessary scenes look like outtakes with no relation or connection to characters & story in anyway.The Plot:Barney Panofsky is a TV producer he is alcoholic & a heavy smoker he is getting old he looks back at his life all those mistakes & crazy things he has done plus the relationship with all of his 3 wives,kids & his friends.This is a film not for everyone people will complain about it for being boring i handled it because it was something i was looking for once again i would like to mention Minnie Driver here she is excellent & looks even more beautiful then ever i became a fan of her when i saw her in Goldeneye 1995.If you wonder why this film is called barney's version let me clear this up a bit it should have been called barney's vision because of his views on life & how he looks at it but actually its about barney & his versions too the same guy with many different personalities basically the character is confused so when i searched a bit about author Mordecai Richler he wrote the novel of the same name the novel has more depth then the film but this is a faithful adaptation.Overall Barney;s Version 2010 is a film you can watch if you like heavy dialog oriented films this was not released in theaters across Pakistan don;t know why but its definitely worth grabbing it on the DVD Disc my rating is 5/10.Recommended

edwagreen A truly excellent film which showcases the acting talent of Paul Giamatti. He plays a man who marries 3 times in the film. His first two marriages are a disaster resulting in one suicide and one divorce. His 3rd marriage appears to be a huge success, until one mistake leads to divorce again and heartbreak.Dustin Hoffman is wonderful in a supporting role as Giamatti's father. He certainly got what he had wished for in life.We see a lot of Jewish nuances throughout the film.This is primarily a film dealing with unconventional people over a 30 year period. To say that they lack conformity is to put it mildly.

Gypsy Rose If it's something refreshingly different and brilliantly done you're looking for then this is it. Barney's Version won me over in the first opening minutes and sealed it's place as a lifelong favorite well before the end. Barney's words and actions just cracked me up and I laughed until I cried repeatedly all the way through the movie saying "OMG! it's the male version of me!" Babyboomers and generation X will appreciate this movie the most. If you have a care-bear, wrap them in cotton wool, political correct mentality this movie is not for you! This is a movie best appreciated by those over the age of 40 who grew up in the 50's, 60's and early 70's before the world went to crap because of the afore mentioned.I loved this movie. It is true that Barney is "politically incorrect, impulsive, irascible, fearlessly blunt, hard-drinking, cigar chain smoking, foulmouthed, cynical, self-absorbed, frumpy schmuck, he is no pretty sight - from inside or out" BUT.... I loved that like me Barney spoke his mind and didn't care what people thought of him and what he had to say. He wore his heart on his sleeve, was deeply passionate in all that he did, was loyal to his friends and family with the exception of one major stuff up (who doesn't make mistakes?), and he was dogged in his determination. He was sincere in all that he did and said and you always knew where you stood with him, no head games.... this is me take it or leave it, I don't back down, never give up and won't go away so deal with it kind of guy (a man after my own heart he-he!). I found that for all Barney's flaws he possessed traits that balanced him out.... how often are we all so quick to find others flaws and yet fail to take the time to really get to know someone and discover their good qualities.I loved Barney and I love movies that you can relate to, can say that I know people like that and leave you thinking on so many different levels about life, your life and pondering so many possibilities of what if I....? Giamatti 1st impressed me in the mini series John Adams and in Barney he did another extraordinary performance proving once again that despite the fact he isn't what you would expect a leading man to look like he certainly does have what it takes to leave a memorable impression as a leading man given the right script and environment to work with. I can't fault any of the cast to be honest, they all seemed to belong in and played their respective role beautifully.All in all a huge BRAVO! to all the cast and crew for a highly entertaining, brilliantly scripted, very original and I must say a very side-splitting funny movie. AND thank you to Giamatti for giving us a refreshing and unforgettable leading man in Barney.... this gal found herself absolutely adoring Barney.... a male version of me in many respects! LMAO! I wish I could give a much higher score than 10/10! A movie that has a charm all of it's own that I suspect will age / date beautifully!Oh and one final note.... PLEASE watch and listen carefully for an extremely creative reveal to understand what really happened that day at the lake between Barney and his best friend... the did he or didn't he do it is answered in full at the end of the movie.... *rolls eyes* at those who obviously didn't pay attention

werefox08 Barneys Version..a Canadian / Italian production made in 2010 is, one very good movie. When its funny its VERY funny, and when its dramatic its VERY dramatic. Paul Giamatti is brilliant as Barney Panofsky...a guy with multiple human defects (heavy drinker, big time cigar smoker ,and a tendency for acting impulsively)...until he sees his "true love" at his second wedding. He sounds like a really un-likable man, but he is honest, and it is his honesty which makes him lovable. We even forgive him when he accidentally kills his best friend. I found this movie highly entertaining, and with Dustin Hoffman at his best as Barneys dad and Rosamund Pike perfection as the third Mrs. Panofsky there is a kind of magic in the air. I did think the music was never quite right, but that is nothing to be concerned about. Barneys Version is extremely good movie making.....with great acting.
