Banshee Chapter Audience Reviews

Mjeteconer Just perfect...
Matialth Good concept, poorly executed.
FirstWitch A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.
Usamah Harvey The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
Moviefreak I watched Banshee Chapter because the topic had my interest. Actually, MK ultra is a real experiment that was done between years of 1953 and 1973. The story-line of the movie was very clear and easy to follow, but there were really bad mistakes of the movie. They were unreasonable, and not even related to the stupidity of any character. These mistakes made the movie unrealistic. There were also some stuff left unexplained at the end of the movie, this also made it unrealistic. Even though, I was really captured by the movie and its jump scares. Some scenes were so tense that I knew a few jump scares before coming. Though, they still made me jump. If it was also realistic in reasonable consideration, I would find the movie much better. What I can say is that watch it if you are interested in the subject matter of the movie and if you like creepy stuff. And watch it as a creepy thriller movie. Otherwise, watching the movie would be a waste of time for you.
Andrew Gold I'm not a fan of jump scares. I think they're cheap, sometimes manipulative, and they rarely imbue dread. Rather, they can ruin a movie's atmosphere if used incorrectly. Having said that, The Banshee Chapter has the best use of jump scares I've seen in a long, long time. You can sense them coming from a mile away, yet they can still make you crap your pants. I credit this to the director who clearly has a grasp on how to utilize atmosphere and build-ups effectively. These scares don't seem cheap; well, some of them do, but the tone is set by the creepy music, the static, and the robotic voices which really holds the movie together. And the imagery itself is creepy. If I saw one of those things near me, I would freak the f*** out too. Now, you probably noticed by now that I haven't even hinted at a narrative in this movie, and that's because it's so flimsy it's hardly worth mentioning. It's basically about MK Ultra and the government testing drugs on people, then things start to go horribly wrong. The premise is good, but the actual story - the execution - is hollow and lazy. I didn't care what has happening half the time. I was too busy peeking through my eyes (kidding, but not really) waiting for the damn thing to come out from somewhere. Almost every scene is crafted this way - light on substance, heavy on scares.Thankfully, horror is about the scares so I have to give The Banshee Chapter credit. Even though it stands for everything I hate in horror movies, this one actually gets it right, and for that alone, bravo.
Seonmi Wall This movie was outright creepy and that's why it's my #1 favourite. I recommend that you DO NOT watch this at night. The Banshee Chapter was a mix of mystery and horror which perfectly blended together to create something horrifying. The broadcast that was trying to be solved was rather disturbing and there was also a major jump scare near the beginning that you would never expect. Normally, with those corny horror movies, you can usually tell if something is about to jump out (aka- the creepy music starts to play). But this movie, however, was nothing like that and you just can't predict when it's going to scare you which makes it the best horror movie I have ever seen. The only thing I was confused about was the broadcast, which they never really explained.Solid 10/10 :D
begob Basically a missing person mystery with heavy reliance on sound/shadow jump-scares.Intriguing opening sequence, followed by a dull start to the investigation, where the pace flags. This is recurrent, and the story has to jump start with ... you know. Too many moving parts, I reckon, and it feels a bit contrived, always having to explain itself.Jump scares? At least ten. The first few are very effective, making me blush in my girly reaction. But near the climax you can tell the actress has been directed to angle the torchlight away from a dark space because there's going to be a ... Jump!Scare! Is it down to the scene itself, or audience fatigue? Hmmm. The actor playing the Hunter Thompson type stoner novelist is very good. Not impressed with the lead - standard strong woman issue, but she left me cold anyway.A lot of reviewers have praised the sound structure - thought it was good, nothing special.A Venn diagram of the story would overlap Cthulhu/alien/libertarian paranoia. Strangely it delivers a clunky anti-drugs message in the penultimate location - should have applied that to ... you know.ps. the novelist's voice is unmistakable - but I had to confirm on the Silence of the Lambs page.
