His girlfriend Vaidehi ( Sita 's another name) dumps him because she cannot lives in a rigid society where women are not respected and are valued over dowry they bring. Watch how Badri fights his inner daemons and society wins Vadidehi. He is supported by brother and his sis in law Urmlia Shukla ( Lakshaman wife).I am going with 8/10 because it had 1 song in 2nd half too many and climax was too filmy for me..

Jitendra Kotai I do not know the expectations people had from this film when they rated it so low. I went to watch this movie expecting it to be a nice romantic comedy. The film explores a social evil in India that is dowry. Varun Dhawan makes you like the protagonist almost immediately. He gets the diction right and he looks the part. You start feeling for the sensitive Badri. Alia bhatt is fabulous in the emotional scenes. She can act. Sahil Vaid plays the hero's best friend to perfection. The music of the film is fantastic. The film entertains you and there are lots of moments where they touch your heart. Shashank Khaitan's Humpty Sharma was laughable but Badrinath ki Dulhaniya is a good attempt.

Arun George Bollywood lately has been wanting to drive home the point that Indian women aren't just showpieces (or liabilities as the director Shashank Khaitan puts it across in BKD!). While some efforts (such as Queen, English Vinglish and Kahaani) carry a lot of heart, some are made to cash in on a successful franchise (like Naam Shabana) or milk the current trend of female-centric films (like Akira). BKD isn't female-centric to be exact but its quite obvious that the director inadvertently wants the (partly selfish) character played by Alia to be the heart and soul of the film.BKD (a second instalment in the Dulhania franchise - seems like a franchise is born out of every third film they churn out!) is not the mushiest rom-com you'll see. Yet, it never feels like it wants to topple some of the best rom-coms out there. The first half is in fact, fairly entertaining (thanks in part to Sahil Vaid!) too. Post interval (where the director wants to put across his argument on 'respect' between partners in a relationship), things end up looking stretched and nothing really moves forward. Sometimes, the film embraces the clichés it tries to overthrow. For example, when Alia's Vaidehi runs away from the house, there is really no question of her going through a struggle to reach her ambitions. Instead, what we're subjected to, is intermittent advertisements for Silk Air. The DAD character is so one-note that you know there's a scene coming where the kids need to 'educate' him on how man and woman co- exist in the modern era. A terribly-done 'joke' on male molestation just adds more distaste to the proceedings. Dhawan is okay in his portrayal of Badri; a role that is very well within his comfort zone (except when he goes all baddie in a couple of scenes which look stale as hell. This is no Badlapur mind you!). Alia can do a lot better if her characters are written better (Udta Punjab and Dear Zindagi are good examples!). The rest of the ensemble is pretty adequate.I'd give pass marks for BKD owing to its not-so-bad first half. We've already seen too many rom-coms to know what happens in the second. You can only 'postpone' a marriage and never 'cancel' one in a Bollywood romedy.
