Bad Seed Audience Reviews

Karry Best movie of this year hands down!
Smartorhypo Highly Overrated But Still Good
Hayden Kane There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes
Curt Watching it is like watching the spectacle of a class clown at their best: you laugh at their jokes, instigate their defiance, and "ooooh" when they get in trouble.
Alice C This was so slow and ridiculous. The story was not believable at all. A man's wife has an affair with an unbalanced low life. This just wasn't believable. None of these characters acted within any realm of reasonableness. They all take the law into their own hands and run around doing ridiculous things to each other. I can't believe some of the good reviews. Even the acting was poor. This really wasn't a thriller or any kind of real mystery worth knowing the little twist that caused everyone to just let it go as a misunderstanding. Don't waste 90 minutes on this.
gpeltz I had remembered a 1956 movie called, "Bad Seed" and it was about a spooky little girl. Then there was "Demon Seed" 1977 about a killer computer. Both claim legitimacy to rest in the category "Horror Film" This movie "Bad Seed" (2000) Written and Directed by Jon BokenKamp does not fit in the conventional concept of Horror Film, (As the You Tube movie category under which I found it, claimed) No scary monster stalking sorority girls. No Undead, supernatural, or demonic subterfuge here. What we get is something much more interesting. Horror perhaps, but along the line of "A Simple Plan"(1998) Warning Spoiler Alert. I am going to discuss the movie. The style of the film plays for the first reel as a smart homage to the Coen brothers. The second reel gives us a cat and mouse series of events, This part of the movie seemed overplayed, as if to pacify those longing for police sirens. The movie concludes with a revelation, and a redemption. and a fail. The force of the Director is strong with this one.He opens with a stylish flourish, that pulls one right in. a basic breakup scenario, In this instance Preston, played by Luke Wilson, just found out that his wife, Emily played by Mili Avital was having an affair. He leaves the apartment to think things over, but when he returns, he finds her dead. Preston is convinced that Emily's other lover, Jonathan Reedus committed the murder. and In an act of vigilante "justice" kill's Jonathan. He then hides the body in the woods. In a daft plot twist, we discover He killed the wrong guy, he murdered Jonathans brother. There is another major player who enters the plot, a Private Gumshoe named Dick. played by Dennis Farina. He is Hired by Preston who is now on the run from the furious Jonathan who is out to kill him, He us is on the lam as well from the police who think he killed his wife.Jonathan holds a trump card, A video tape from a security monitor, that recorded his brothers murder. Preston spends the next third of the movie trying to locate that incriminating tape. Just at the point where the situation starts straining credibility, The films direction again changes, Now we get the full emotional payoff. Perhaps a tad bit too thick, but still managing to pack a good wallop. The Apocalyptic score was written by Kurt Kuenne and the production design by Chris Eguia reflects a care for the period; Well done cheesy hotel rooms, VCR players, and rotary dial phones, The Editing by Ann Trulove is crisp and propels the action seamlessly. On the other side of the coin, I thought the movie a tad heavy in the sentiment department, It verges on the "sappy" Jonathan and Preston share a common bond, that oddly draws them together, they both loved Emily. So the logical question that arises, but goes unsaid, is, Why would Jonathan kill Emily. (A-Hah!) Might I add that the demise of one of the characters was redundant, The Judicial conclusion was also glossed over, we never heard the sentence, sadly the movie ends with a "Redemption in the rain" replay. I'll not fault the movie for this, it was a good ride while it lasted. Eight out of Ten, "He works in mysterious ways" Stars.
daggersineyes I thought this was going to be an OK movie but it didn't live up to it's early promise (or it's tag lines) and ended up being a very boring movie. It's got one or two OK chase scenes & a bit of drama but there's not much else going on. The lead actor is a large part of the problem (he's barely there, maybe he was on tranqulisers or something to help him cope with this abysmal script) and the musical score is another problem. If you're trying to create an edgy thriller why on earth would you use music that would be more suitable for some mediocre schmaltzy sugary Hallmark tragic romance flick. That horrible "angelic choir" music completely destroyed any atmosphere this thinly drawn tale might have dredged up. But even with decent sound I don't think this would have been a whole lot better. There's no mystery, no suspense and no thrills. The actor playing Johnathon did an OK job with what he had, which wasn't a lot. He was convincing at least. The PI was a stereotype. And there was some weird touchy feely stuff between the main dude and the PI that didn't really belong. After the first interesting 20 mins the pacing drops to an excruciatingly slow amble and becomes much more of a drama than a thriller. I am not a big fan of drama - unless it's EXCEPTIONAL and deals with important stuff - which this isn't and doesn't'. The ending just drags on forever with no particular purpose. In fact, it felt like they filmed half a dozen alternative "endings" but the director couldn't decide which one to use so he threw them all in. The final final ending was particularly boring and nonsensical. I also knew "whodunnit" pretty early on. There was no surprises for me. The only bright spot was the kid who played Dillon.BUT I have given it 4 points because it's actually better than a lot of the mediocre stuff around - and that's not really saying much. I think it had an interesting story even if it wasn't portrayed well. I'd love to have seen what a more innovative & confident director with some decent actors could have made of it. I can't say this is a great movie, not even sure it qualifies as "good" but it has it's OK points and it isn't a disaster. I didn't even fast forward any of it so that shows it at least held my interest (except maybe the end(s) when I started shuffling papers etc while it tried to find a point to finish on). I DO think it's an excellent choice for say, a guy who wants a night in watching movies with his girlfriend (or vice versa) and can't work out whether to get a chick flick or a boys action/adventure/thriller movie. This will cover both of you, albeit in a not entirely satisfactory way. But if she likes sob-movies she'll probably like it. You can just watch the chase scenes and even score brownie points for offering to make drinks during the slow bits. :D (PS But not if she's a chick like me. In which case you'd be better off renting Suspiria or Ils)!!)Not for serious fans of the genre or movie buffs but OK for a slow night/rainy afternoon popcorn fodder.
LilsZoo2 This movie is about obsession, salvation and finally redemption. A loving but absent husband,(Luke Wilson) is told by his wife that she is having and affair, leaves to think things out only to return and discover his wife is dead. He is now the main suspect and needs to find the real killer. In his journey of exploration, hires the private dick, Dick, excellently portrayed by the awesome Dennis Farina. The lover engages the husband in an intricate cat and mouse game that ultimately comes to a shocking discovery. But mostly this film is about normal people when put under pressure do just about anything and think it is reasonable at the time. What makes this one different is that when all is said and done one man makes a choice that will change his life forever.
