Good movie, but best of all time? Hardly . . .

If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.

A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.

It is an exhilarating, distressing, funny and profound film, with one of the more memorable film scores in years,

For lovers of Bach's music you'll find little to fault with this documentary. However for the casual viewer the film comes across as a little too enthusiastic and one sided. The documentary is essentially a 2 hour compendium of (largely north American) talking heads gushing uncritical praise on Bach and his works, interspersed with pieces of Bach's music performed on a variety of instruments. The documentary assumes the viewer already knows Bach's biography (this is certainly not a history lesson) and there is little context or comparison to other composers of his generation.Non-Bach lovers may come away from this film feeling a little unfulfilled, you have been warned.
