TrueHello
Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.

The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
Dana
An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.

This film was included in THE ANIMATION SHOW VOLUME THREE--a compilation of short films arranged by Don Hertzfeldt and Mike Judge. Overall, this is a very impressive DVD--and much of it is due to CITY PARADISE.This is a very funny but very slow-paced CGI film about some guys in space. They appear to be total idiots and watching bad thing happen to them is great. I particularly liked when the one astronaut felt compelled to push the "do NOT push" button thereby ejecting their oxygen--funny and rather cruel! I liked the film a lot, though I also think it could have been tightened up a bit to make it a little less slow-paced.

"Astronauts" reminds me of other wonderfully incompetent co-worker stories, like those on "The Office." If you ever had a less than perfect roommate situation, you will easily identify with these two characters. Of course, maybe it was you who couldn't resist pressing the shiny, red button. I, myself, admire Astronauts #2's ingenuity with the crossword puzzle. How many times have you wanted to just add another box to the grid to make your answer fit?I believe it is available at www.Filmporium.com. The DVD includes two other shorts, "Das Rad", an amusing short showing progress from a boulder's-eye view, and "Ski Jumping Pairs", a fun take on an extreme winter sport.
