Arianna Moses Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.

The Couchpotatoes The only thing that I can applaud about Antiviral is that it is a story that you never saw before. So for the innovating concept the movie can get some credits. But the actual outcome isn't by far any good as the idea of the movie. They could have done so much more and better with that story. The movie is way too slow and sometimes repetitive. I had to fight against falling asleep more than once during Antiviral and it was not because I was tired. The main character played by Caleb Landry Jones didn't do any good to the movie either. I thought his acting was very monotone and boring to watch. So with the potential of the script I can only be disappointed with the outcome.

SnoopyStyle Syd March (Caleb Landry Jones) works for Lucas Clinic which buys viruses from celebrities to be injected into obsessed fans who are willing to pay. They have exclusive rights to celebrity Hannah Geist (Sarah Gadon) which is very popular. Then he harvests and injects the Geist sample into himself. Others like celebrity butcher Arvid replicates celebrity cells and sells them as meat. Hannah Geist dies and Syd starts to get sicker.This is a great idea for an original indie. The script needs a few more passes to elevate the tension and add some thrills. The idea seems to be all there is in this movie. It's not particularly exciting. It also needs a section at the beginning to do an exposition on what the products are about, the science behind it and the legal ramifications. Brandon Cronenberg should have made a fake TV ad for the product. It's also probably important to bring in the law early to explain the legal world these products exist in. I love the machine that he gets hooked up to. It's definitely has the Cronenberg style. However the movie lacks any energy. It's creepy but not much more than that. I like the weird creepiness. I'm just waiting for Brandon to take it to the next level.

FlashCallahan Syd March is an employee at a clinic that sells injections of live viruses harvested from sick celebrities to obsessed fans.Syd also supplies illegal samples of these viruses to piracy groups, smuggling them from the clinic in his own body. When he becomes infected with the disease that kills celebrity Hannah Geist, Syd becomes a target for collectors and rabid fans. He must unravel the mystery surrounding her death before he suffers the same fate....Coming from a Cronenberg, it's pretty certain that this film is going to involve some disturbing imagery, and bizarre content, and this doesn't fail on any level regarding this.It takes body horror not literal, but it does have that element of body image in the narrative. What the film does deal is the obsession of celebrity, and the lengths people will do to be like their favourite celebrity.Even eating the celebrity...The film is very sanitised, and Jones is wonderful, as the man who is literally carrying a disease and his physical transformation throughout the movie is quite spectacular.All in all, it does owe a lot to Cronenberg Sr., especially his early works, but it's a wonderfully bonkers concept, and it works...

suite92 Edward Porris reports to a clinic to get infected with the same disease that celebrity Hannah Geist has. Syd is his handler and the protagonist of the film. He reassures people to keep going with their stated choices.Syd is also a part of the celebrity meat market. Cells from celebrities are used to reproduce (in relatively large quantities) muscle tissue that is sold as steaks and the like. Arvid is his contact in the meat sales.Syd gets a new sample from Hannah Geist, and gives it to himself. He's knocked out for a while. When he wakes up, Hannah is dead, and Syd was one of the last people to see her alive. Arvid would like Syd to give him a sample of this, since Arvid could make a huge profit on it. Syd claims not to have any knowledge of what killed her.Everyone is up in arms about Hannah's passing, especially at the Lucas Clinic, the company where Syd works. Syd stays ill, and consults with Arvid, who takes him to Levine. Levine forcibly takes a sample of the Hannah Geist pathogens. Syd tries to escape, but he is way too weak. They dump him on the street later. Nice. Thugs from another group kidnap him. They take him to Dr. Abendroth, who has come from Germany to do an autopsy on Hannah. First, though, the doctor wishes to see what is happening with the living specimen, Syd.Doctor Abendroth tells him that the virus he has was designed to deflect diagnosis, but that he had gotten around the viruses protections. Hannah is still alive, but further along in the disease. They talk. Hannah's family has traced the disease back to Lucas Clinic, and hope that Syd will find out who at Lucas designed it. Syd has to retrace his steps, this time with an entirely different purpose.------Scores------Cinematography: 8/10 Bad in a few spots (jerky camera and the like), but mostly fine quality.Sound: 10/10 No problems.Acting: 8/10 Much better than I expected. Caleb Landry Jones and Malcolm McDowell were quite good.Screenplay: 8/10 Good story, well developed in the narration of deep corruption.
