Amityville: The Evil Escapes Audience Reviews

Lawbolisted Powerful
Pluskylang Great Film overall
Kaelan Mccaffrey Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.
Juana what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.
Leofwine_draca AMITYVILLE IV: THE EVIL ESCAPES is the first of the ultra-cheesy Amityville sequels with increasingly spurious connections to the first films in the series. This one's a TV movie which doesn't help, as the production values are noticeably lacking compared to the earlier films. The storyline involves the Amityville curse being transferred into a creepy old lamp, which is subsequently purchased as a gift for an unsuspecting family who begin to suffer strange hauntings as a result. This is a rather dull film that stretches out for long moments of boredom and occasionally intersperses them with silliness. It's also incredibly cheesy and not the least bit scary, so it's a film to watch if you've got a sense of humour. Patty Duke as the put-upon mother is the only actor here who gives anything approaching a legitimate performance. Scenes involving flies and priests feel like weak retreads of what has come earlier and are largely without merit. The film is better when it works in new supernatural events (even if they are ridiculous). THE EVIL ESCAPES has the best garbage disposal scene since ROLLING THUNDER, although that moment is eclipsed by a later set-piece involving a plumber and a blocked pipe that has to be seen to be believed. The cheesy highlight involves the woman's son (played by a dwarf actor) having an encounter with a possessed chainsaw in the basement; a moment that truly has to be seen to be believed. Stuff with a creepy blonde possessed girl is too obviously indebted to POLTERGEIST and the ending is routine, although that last freeze frame is pretty funny.
MarieGabrielle The "Amityville Horror" series continues. Actually for anyone who is a fan of that series, this film is much better than the 2005 remake which is so derivative as it seems to owe royalties to the original director. This time Patty Duke and family move out west; her mom is Jane Wyatt (always a nice TV presence). While the story is a bit contrived, this time Wyatt's sister on Long Island has sent her a hideous lamp, which seems to be the key to the evil and insanity brought into the house. Sound silly? Well, it's better than the "ketcham and kill 'em" reference in the latest tired Amityville saga. In the new film the name Ketcham is invoked to imply a witch/warlock who lived in the Amityville L.I., NY original house. If you drive on Ketcham Street today you will see nothing except quaint souvenir shops and coffee shops; there was never a mystery, just a cottage industry.
Tikkin I wasn't expecting much from this film, however it turned out to be decently entertaining considering it's the fourth Amytville sequel. The plot concerns a possessed lamp removed from the original Amytville house, that is now in a new house causing mayhem. The acting is decent and the story isn't too boring. Sadly it lacked gore, but then so did a lot of films in the late 80's.Whenever I see a lamp now I always think of this film, whether that's a good thing or not I don't know. If you can find a cheap copy then it may be worth a watch, however I wouldn't go out of your way to find it as it's not the best around.
thekingofplain This movie is just awful, but in a very fun way. We had a blast watching it, so watch it with a group of people and you will have a good time making fun of it. If you are looking for a drinking game, here it is...During the movie, they make a really big deal about the haunted floor lamp lighting by itself even though it is not plugged in. It happens a lot, trust me. Here are the rules: Every time the lamp turns itself on and does the spooky glow thing, everyone in the room has to say out loud at the same time, "Oh my God, the lamp lights by itself!", and take a drink. Put some emotion into it - it's fun. You better have a designated driver if you do this... the lamp really likes to light itself up.Have fun.
