Why so much hype?

Pretty good movie overall. First half was nothing special but it got better as it went along.

Through painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable

Hollywood, and a lot of the reviewers on this site, hate this movie. It reflects a conservative version of history, showing how faith affected American settlers during the 1750-ish time period. The Indians do NOT do the horrible things discussed in one "Indian Expert" review! There are no sexual situations, and it is true to history. After reading some of the low-rated reviews, I wrote down a few names and dates mentioned in the movie, then looked them up. There WAS a Fort DuQuesne in PA, and the English General Edward Braddock was killed attacking that French Fort in 1755. (Battle of the Monongahela). Regina Leininger IS buried in Stouchsburg, PA and has a marker... "Regina the Indian Captive", placed by The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). The Delaware Indians DID kidnap children of murdered settlers and used them as slaves. The Indians sold scalps to the French for the bounty they offered. Here's what is is.... the Hollywood elite could not believe the academy nominated music from this conservative movie for an award. They quickly had that nomination withdrawn to prevent this film from getting positive exposure. Even reviewers on this site who have worked in the film industry cannot understand why anybody would say good things about this movie.I enjoyed this film. The basic pretext is based upon an easily verifiable true story, and the writers did a very commendable job filling in unknown personal details. Note that one reviewer complained that the main female character was TOO good-looking for the role. Give me a break! "Alone Yet Never Alone" should be in every conservative's film library.

I didn't know what to expect but found the film to be quite good, thought provoking, suspenseful and meaningful. Beautifully shot and quite intense many times throughout. Makes you appreciate the struggles involved by the colonists, the colony leaders, the British, the militia, the Native Americans and how all that affected families (one in particular) and individuals (a young girl in particular). Loyalty, friendship, betrayal, perseverance, faith, sacrifice, sadness and joy can all be found in this film as this story unfolds.Unlike films set in a mythical future, like Divergent for example, this one was shot in a realistic style as if the people were real and living in the real world, our world in the historical past. I soon found myself caught up in their various struggles and ironies and felt like I was with them there in the past. These people could easily have been your or my ancestors and indeed, our ancestors probably experienced lives very much like this whatever our heritage. You WILL feel when you see this film so I hope you don't mind feelings. Embrace the characters and go through the journey with them no matter what they must go through. You'll not be alone.

This is, perhaps, the finest cinematic achievement in modern history. The acting is on par with legendary performances like Clark Gable and Vivian Leigh in "Gone with the Wind." The cinematography is simply breathtaking. Ansel Adams could not have produced more visually arresting imagery. Bruce Broughton's exhilarating score is his finest work since his days as a studio composer for the original "Hawaii Five-O." The historical accuracy and gripping drama will leave you breathless for more and more sequels. I simply cannot recommend this movie enough, or at all. It deserves to play in every American movie house around the clock for the next five years.

I watched this film solely for the reason that it was nominated for an academy award and I had never heard of it. What this movie turned out to be was a racist ultra conservative fever dream of this time period only the acting was on par with a middle school play with about one day of preparation. I later learned that the reason that it was nominated was due to corruption in the voting process but I only hope to warn people that started with the same idea that I had, do not watch this movie it's not even laughably bad it's just painful. Also the original song isn't even that good compared to what it beat out, it's just a hymn
