Bad Acting and worse Bad Screenplay

It’s an especially fun movie from a director and cast who are clearly having a good time allowing themselves to let loose.

Funny, strange, confrontational and subversive, this is one of the most interesting experiences you'll have at the cinema this year.

Co-written, co-produced and starring Ice Cube. You know, I never considered it, but he's one hell of an actor. Ice Cube is the best thing about Ghosts of Mars and he owns Friday and Next Friday. Here, he's a bounty hunter in Miami whose prey loses a winning lottery ticket in the middle of a diamond theft by an evil criminal mastermind.Michael Epps (Omar's brother maybe?) is quite good. The chase for the diamonds and the lottery ticket is reminiscent of some of those old Bill Cosby/Sidney Poitier flicks from the 1970s and yet it never really tips into the comedy realm but never loses that urban thriller edge either. The ending however was a little too The Whole Nine Yards for me.Great action sequences, nasty villains and good guys to root for. Look for Anthony Michael Hall as a white trash trailer park deadbeat. Not a bad rental.

Ice Cube has definitely flipped the script. He's done it all from acting, writing, producing and directing. "All About The Benjamins" isn't a great movie by any means, but it validates tomorrow's newest duo - Cube and Epps. When Mike Epps teamed with the Cube on "Next Friday", I thought it was gimmicky. "All About The Benjamins" cements it. They truly are a throw back to the great comedic duos from Laurel and Hardy to Gibson and Glover. There's alot of plot holes, implausible action scenes, but the chemistry between the two stars is undeniable. If I have to critique one thing, Cube needs to refine his screenwriting skills a tad. He knows how to tell a good story, but doesn't know how to write one. With Cube, the only way he can go is up.
Unassuming Local Guy
I was pretty surprised by this flick. It's an action film with a few shots of comedy that actually delivers where it counts. Ice Cube plays it pretty straight here (like all of his other movies, but that's why we love him), and Mike Epps seems to be channeling Chris Tucker. They play off of one another very nicely, though. The mostly formulaic storyline manages to throw them into some very interesting situations.Of particular note are the "first black President" joke and the torture sequence. And of course, the Cube has his usual cheerful facial expressions glowing throughout the film. Truly, don't miss it.

The things some people will do for money. This mismatched buddy movie is every bit as fast, funny and action packed as its triler suggested and prooves that money is really the root of all evil. Ice Cube again solidifies himself as the best muscian turned actor as Bucum, a bounty hunter who will do anything to make a quick buck, but gets more than he bargained for when he is sent to bring in Reggie (Mike Epps), a low life street hustler who accidently gets involved with a bunch of blood thirsty diamond crooks who almost kill BUcum while he is looking for Reggie. Trying to avoid jail, Reggie cuts Bucum a deal that he will give him a peice of his 60 millian dollar loto ticket that is in his wallet, which he dropped while trying to escape from the crooks. Epps is generally goofy and reminds me a lot like Eddie Murphy or Chris Tucker, while still being undeniably hilarious but it is Cube who is the master of his own game as he gives a greatly mastered comedic performance. The plot is complex without becoming confusing, making it even more entertaining than suspected and also puts in lot of laugh out loud humor without becoming slapstick. There are also some very funny lines about big stars like Robert Downey Jr., Mel Gibson and Christopher Reeves. Epps and Cube obviously make a good team which was first showcased in the quirky suprise hit Next Friday and with movies like Trespass, Three Kings and Ghosts or Mars under his belt, Cube is becoming not stranger to good action movies. The direction here is also a cut above other movies usually found in this grene, making this one entertaing romp from start to finish. For everyone who couldn't get enough of Money Talks and loved Next Friday, this movie delivers just what the doctor ordered.
