Akeelah and the Bee Audience Reviews

Protraph Lack of good storyline.
Numerootno A story that's too fascinating to pass by...
AshUnow This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
Derry Herrera Not sure how, but this is easily one of the best movies all summer. Multiple levels of funny, never takes itself seriously, super colorful, and creative.
gofastergetrounder This is just a terrific movie. I rented it for my daughter when she was much younger. We watched it twice when she was around the age of 4 or so. Thoroughly enjoyed it then. I mentioned it to her recently and she didn't really remember it. Consequently, we watched it again a short while ago (she is now 11). She really enjoyed it and I did too. I almost never watch movies more than once. This one I have seen three times and enjoyed it each time. Highly recommended.
NileFortnerBoogieBuddha954 **WARNING A COUPLE OF SPOILERS**Akeelah Anderson (Keke Palmer) is an eleven year old girl, who lives in South Los Angeles. She has a talent for spelling, and believes that she can make it to a National Spelling Bee. At 1st her mother (Angela Bassett) doesn't think it is a good idea for her daughter. Akeelah then finds a teacher named Dr. Larabee, (Laurence Fishburne), who coaches her, and believes she has what it takes to win the National Spelling Bee.This film does a fantastic job of entertaining, inspiring, and really tugging at your heartstrings. Every character in the film I could get behind, understand, and even relate too as well. Whether you feel sympathy, angered, or misunderstood about a character, this movie delivers great characters. For instance, Dr. Larabee's character was well done; I loved how he saw a little bit of his daughter in Akeelah. It made the 2 characters seem really connected, and it added to the film, by making him more emotionally attached to our main character. Dr. Larabee is more than just a life coach in the film. He teaches Akeelah strategy, positive thinking, overcoming the odds, and will power. I also found it interesting that Dr. Larabee's last name spells bee, and the movie plot focuses on the spelling bee.In addition, I loved how Akeelah had flashbacks to when her dad was alive, and how Akeelah would look at the picture of her father, and say things like "You would believe in me." It was a reflection on how her father is still with her in spirit and in conscience. One character I didn't like at first, was Dylan. The movie did a great job at making him seem cocky, and ruthless. Only because of his father; his father put pressure on him to win. Dylan's true nature shows at the end of the film. Even Dylan's father's character changed. So these are my final Bitchin' Buddha thoughts. No matter how old you are, you can enjoy this film. Everyone from 10 to 110, will have a great time. It's full of heart, great and relatable characters. I believe Akeelah and the Bee earns a ...9/10 !This review is brought to you by Boogie Buddha, and remember, don't just get down but get Boogie. Thank you for reading, and viewing, and I hope you have an amazing day as always. :)
Arlis Fuson Uplifting story about a young girl who's father has died, her mother works to support her and the girl seems alone in the world in many ways. She goes to school in a poor neighborhood that doesn't have all of the resources for her to have the best education possible. One thing that she does have is words. Her intellect and her knowledge for words are great and her school needs help with getting it on the map and they want to use Akeelah to help show that their children at the school need the same advantages other students get. Akeelah wins a spelling bee and then is coached by a man telling her that she needs to learn different words and to be able to break them down and know their origins...Akeelah eventually learns a lot about herself, her family, her neighborhood and she reaches for the stars and doesn't let fear hold her back.I always thought it was just a stupid kids film about a spelling Bee, but I watched it and was rather touched by the message here. No one should let the place they come from or the people around them stop them from dreaming big and trying to do the best they can in life. Life is not written in stone for you when you are born and anyone has the power to rise above.Laurence Fisburne, Angela Bassett, Curtis Armstrong and Keke Palmer do wonderful jobs acting here. This is a good drama and it has some powerful messages. 6/10 stars
Rosemary (zelda1964) In this film we see two awesome superstars of Hollywood.Lawrence Fishbourne and Angela Bassett worked great together,in the Tina Turner biopic What's Love Got to Do With It; Here, Bassett plays a mother of a sweet young girl,Akeelah. After her father dies,Akeelah wants to pay honor to him,by entering a nationwide spelling bee.She learns some valuable lessons in her journey of "self discovery".I like the way she teaches her rival's father some important tools to learn.Through her brilliant "professor",Akeelah acquires humility, and understands that pride is a virtue that gets you nowhere in Life. Her rival's father learns that people are subject to downfall, and cannot "win" all the time.I love this film and am amazed at the performances! Through Akeelah, everyone is "cut down" a notch lower than they believe they are. I say Bravo to the cast, who shine!
