Age of the Dragons is an adaptation of Herman Melville's classic novel Moby Dick. Set in a medieval realm where Captain Ahab and crew hunt dragons for the vitriol that powers their world, Ishmael, a charismatic harpooner and his friend Queequeg join their quest. Ahab's adopted daughter Rachel, beautiful and tough, runs the hunting vessel. Ahab's obsession to seek revenge on a great White Dragon that slaughtered his family when he was young and left his body scarred and mauled, drives the crew deeper into the heart of darkness. In the White Dragon's lair Ahab's secrets are revealed and Rachel must choose between following him on his dark quest or escaping to a new life with Ishmael.

NekoHomey Purely Joyful Movie!
XoWizIama Excellent adaptation.
Beanbioca As Good As It Gets
AshUnow This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
zxcv opton When you sit to see a dragon movie , obviously you expect thrill , suspense and action . Sadly this movie has not quenched my thirst . And i bet it will not satisfy you either . In the middle of the movie i was wondering what is the purpose of their mission .Like men , dragons also gave miserable fight . That frustrated me more . I wanted to see some fire throwing dragon who roast many men . If you like guess game , you would be delighted to watch the movie . Most of your prediction would be true . Predictable story line is very bad for action movie . No doubt the movie suffered in box office . I did not read the novel on which the move was made . So I can not compare them .Use your time watching other better movies .....
Phil Hubbs Reworking of classic novel 'Moby Dick' but this time using dragons as the game or hunt as it were. To be honest this is a really neat little idea, the only problem is its been made poorly which is a shame.I think this could of worked had a little more time and money been invested, the cast are OK I guess...for an action type film. Danny Glover is a little miscast as Ahab perhaps but Vinnie Jones does surprisingly well as does the hero Sevier as Ishmael. Nothing to rave about of course but the cheesiness of it all suits them fine and you know to expect ham.Of course the effects are slightly off-key, CGI is average but shows promise, even the use of old stop motion techniques used by Harryhausen are utilised at one point which almost works (oddly it looked better in the old mythology films of Harryhausen). Then you do have silly things which needed more planning such as the Pequod as a wheeled land tank/ship thingy. This didn't really work as it was way too small looking, it was like the Tardis, small on the outside yet apparently huge on the inside with about eight adults living in it with lots of quarters shown! plus how did it run? petrol? diesel? someone pedaling below? I must also mention my dislike of virtually everyone in action films these days being some kind of martial arts expert and able to defeat multiple enemies without breaking sweat. It really is so over used and in this film its so out of place, what's wrong with some good old fashioned fisticuffs?A nice idea but the execution is weak, worth checking out if you like dragon flicks though...I guess, not much else going for it.3/10
mythosrattus I have to mention right off that if your walking into this movie expecting a gloriously fanciful and faithful re-telling of Moby Dick, don't be surprised when it disappoints you. Now, if you walked into it expecting a somewhat Moby Dick themed dragon movie, you'll probably be better off. I, personally, had never heard of it before I watched it so I didn't have any expectations at all and I found the whole Moby Dick thing to be an amusing framing device, a fun little side note, in a fairly decent dragon movie. The acting isn't too great but it won't make you rip your eyes out and plug your ears with them, the costuming is pretty decent, and the effects are actually quite good. It's not a great masterpiece but it's a decently entertaining way to kill two hours. If you happen to be into dragons, it's one of the more decent movies that's worth having around to watch once in a while; it's not exactly 'Dragonheart' but it's not nearly as bad as 'Merlin and the War of the Dagons' either. Personally I got a bit of a giggle out of the idea of dragons using vitriol to produce fire (for those who didn't know, vitriol is an old name for sulfuric acid) and the design of the "ship" was pretty neat. All in all, I'm pretty sure the actors involved needed the paycheck more than anything else but it's not too bad and the dragons are pretty damn cool.
orion_ss1 I was intrigued by the title, and why they would go to the trouble of using Melville's plot with a dragon instead of the traditional whale. I still don't know. Had they used the same name for the title ( Age of the Dragons ), and left out the Melville characters' names, I might not have been so disappointed. I heard Summer Glau read for the part of Rachel, and Val Kilmer for Ahab. I understand why they bailed out. The few details they did change did nothing for the movie ( and I use the term "movie" loosely ). The SciFi channel has forgotten what is and isn't science fiction. They should probably go back to professional wrestling to bring their image up a notch. Condolences to Mr. Glover; with Predator 2 under his belt, and the Lethal Weapon franchise to his credit, this is a heavy anchor to hoist should he decide to have his career set sail again.
