itgirlx This documentary plays much more like Reality Show that could be called, "How Codependent Are You?" The people observed are genuinely ill in some way or another and they get little to no help or direction from Western medicine are are left to fend for themselves with mostly charlatan characters. Meanwhile, their care-givers wander minefields of eggshells trying to assist ill people who often feel desperate. It ends up with very codependent relationships where no one is getting their needs met. Cameras documenting these awful situations may be exacerbating the codependent dynamics and do not go unnoticed. Communication, therapy and new modalities, alternative and complementary medicine must be part of the equation for this and all patients. Illness doesn't always fit into a nice, little box. This film does nothing to further the conversation; it just makes everyone look a bit crazy.

rhunter377 This movie is well written and builds to a ferocious climax. Everything about the movie enhances its central illusion: that we are looking at found footage that describes the turning of a vampire. I have never seen "found-footage" video used to better effect. The actors were unknown to me and thoroughly effective in their roles. The SFX are used with laudable economy, and the found-footage look only makes them more shocking. Be sure to watch all the way to the end.

pesic-1 The film is somewhat reminiscent of the Chronicle. It starts as what might look as a found footage film with virtually no budget, but then introduces effects that may come as a surprise. One never knows what to expect with found footage, it's like a box of chocolates. Sometimes it is abysmally bad, and sometimes it ends up quite enjoyable. This film was interesting enough to make want to watch it until the end. However, it does have certain drawbacks. The acting and the dialogue are not very good. They are not bad, but they are not entirely convincing either. Also, the whole idea of found footage is to make people pretend for a while that they are watching genuine events. But the actions of the characters and the development of the story shatter that illusion. It becomes way too neat and in line with Hollywood conventions that it breaks that illusion of reality. I did not enjoy the ending at all, I thought it was cliché and also an anticlimax. Another thing: the film makes you wonder why the characters keep filming, even at times when no one in their right mind would even remember to keep a camera pointed at anything. This is a major weakness of found footage, and this film suffers from it as well. There is also a plot hole regarding the supposed inability of the protagonist to die. Is it not established that the sun will kill him? It certainly is suggested that it will. One final remark: why is there a buildup about the trip, when the action is in no meaningful way connected with being abroad? All this could have happened without the trip, so why is the plot built around the trip? It could have exploited being abroad in many ways, but fails to do so. Still, a fairly entertaining film. Found footage is not meant to be particularly meaningful. It is basically urban myths brought to life, and this is a good example thereof. I'd give it eight stars on the found footage scale. On general movie scale I give it four stars.

gamergcfan This movie manages to blend action, thrills, and scares reasonably well, but it suffers from the lack of engagement value. I think the problem was that the film quality didn't feel like that of a movie, and that the characters lacked depth. At least "Chronicle" felt like a movie. This felt like a found-footage YouTube video by Smosh-like adults.What type of movie is this? Well, it's a mix of several genres: action, buddy film, psychological thriller, horror, and mystery. All these blend fairly well, but the drama itself is not that interesting.
