Best movie of this year hands down!

If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.

A film with more than the usual spoiler issues. Talking about it in any detail feels akin to handing you a gift-wrapped present and saying, "I hope you like it -- It's a thriller about a diabolical secret experiment."

A perfect getaway is a decent enough film and if nothing else you can enjoy the Hawaiin scenery, but I found the twist way before I should have and upon reading other people's accounts it seems like the director should have been more discreet. I will not spoil anything of course but the basic premise is about a couple who go to a Hawaiin retreat and meet another couple with a shady temperament. Steve Zahn, Milla Jovovich and Timothy Olyphant are all good actors and give fine performances, but the script is a letdown. Oh well, you will surely love the gorgeous tropical locations.

Not sure where to start and what exactly is my negative thoughts as there are so many. First THE SCRIPT; was boring and taking too long to get somewhere. It was obvious to me that the writer wanted to mislead you from the beginning. There was a time when I had to fast forward the movie just to keep it moving. Second THE CAST; not too good. I got real tired of looking at Zahn's silly looking face all the time like he just discovered he was doing a serious movie. He annoyed me. His partner (wifey) was a miss match. They definitely did not belong together. I mean chemistry-wise. Then there were the other two couples both just beefcake ad cheesecake actors to keep your interest perhaps. Finally THE MOVIE ITSELF; to this viewer said very little and I felt a waste of my time as I kept fast forwarding to get through it all. Therefore my reaction was a waste of my time and would rather watch the news.

This movie is brilliant. The joke is on the negative comment people, and the ones who say the ending was an insult to their intelligence, because they were lulled into thinking they were watching just another thriller, and were not perceptive enough to catch the fifteen or more solid, yet subtle, clues as to "who done it." I missed a lot of it too, the first time, but I still loved the movie enough to watch it again, and again, and again, each time seeing more and more of these should- be-obvious clues. This is a masterpiece, not only as a screenplay, but as social commentary on how we let our entertainment lull and carry us, instead of actively engaging intellectually with it. All the male leads were spot on, and the females were only a half-step behind. God, I love this movie; watch it two or more times, and I think you will too.

This movie definitely works. It's paced well and keeps you guessing. When the twist comes, I was genuinely surprised. It's a pretty simple movie that works because of a well thought out story and a solid script. With those things in order, a movie always has a good chance of working. The other elements of the movie were pretty solid over all but nothing special. I wasn't impressed with the cinematography. It's okay, but could have been better and much more creative and artistic, especially in such a scenic location. The acting was okay, and the cast mostly worked, but I could see other actors bringing another dimension to the roles. My main complain, and this is mostly a directorial thing, but also editing and cinematography, was after the big reveal, it cut to flashbacks that explain the story, which went on way too long in my opinion. It gets the job done, but I could see it done in a cooler way.Overall, it's a movie that works, but with a more creative director, it could have been really great. Instead, the director got the job done effectively, but didn't really stylize it in a notable way.Definitely a movie worth watching. You probably don't need to own it or watch it over and over, but the first viewing will make for good solid entertainment.
