A Murder of Crows Audience Reviews

Lovesusti The Worst Film Ever
JinRoz For all the hype it got I was expecting a lot more!
Donald Seymour This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.
Tayyab Torres Strong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.
SnoopyStyle Louisiana defense lawyer Lawson Russell (Cuba Gooding Jr.) deliberately causes a mistrial in the trial of Thurman Parks III (Eric Stoltz). He gets disbarred and wants to write a book better than John Grisham. After 13 months in the Florida Keys, he has done a lot of drinking as a fishing tour guide. He's hired by a strange old man named Marlow. Marlow dies and Lawson keeps his manuscript. Lawson claims the book as his own and it becomes a best seller. Thurman is acquitted. Police detective Clifford Dubose (Tom Berenger) is investigating the real murders of five lawyers that is exactly as written in the book. He hires his old colleague Elizabeth Pope as his defense lawyer.I really like the premise. Cuba doesn't necessarily play the everyman character. He's too brash and could be seen as bringing this on himself. Nevertheless, there is a hard-boiled sense to this mystery except for Marlow and the other false identities. The makeup jobs look bad. They look like Halloween costumes and make the movie look cheesy. Eric Stoltz sounds awful in a southern accent. I don't know if the accent is accurate. Hollywood kid Stoltz is not the guy to do the accent. The movie needs to bring on a better makeup artist and somebody else to take on Stoltz's character.
stephparsons Pedestrian, average, predictable, uninspired and badly acted; that about sums up 'A Murder of Crows'. It gave me a bad case of 'movie ennui' and made me think that perhaps I should take a break from watching movies (or pay more attention when selecting them). Cuba Gooding Junior, (who wasn't awful but ……..), plays Lawson Russell, a successful Lawyer who 'snaps' after defending one too many sleazy, guilty, rich clients, and is disbarred. Russell's quite non-plussed about this and goes from lawyer to purveyor of fishing trips in Florida, hoping he might, some day, get around to writing 'that novel'. His job brings him into contact with an old man (who is so obviously a young man with loads of fake wrinkles and make up - god, you'd think in this day and age they'd have the technology and know how to either do it properly or simply hire a real old man) - and guess what? The old man gives him a manuscript to read and then dies promptly before Russell can return it. I really need say no more about the plot as it's quite obvious what happens next. Yes, there are a few 'twists' (but you could see them coming a mile away, even if you were blind, deaf and had just had your head chopped off) so there's no real need to see the ending of this middle-of-the-road work of mediocrity. Although Gooding Junior was 'ok' in the acting department at the start of this film, as it wore on he seemed to just give up (as the script writer and director had presumably done). If you're looking for a movie that requires no thinking, no surprises, no interesting screen play, and no great actors, then 'A Murder of Crows' just might fit the bill. The only thing I can really recommend about this movie is the 'acting' of the police, detectives, agents, bailiff etc - their performances are SO bad, you might get a good chuckle (for about 2 minutes)
Cablebot3000 This crime thriller starring Cuba Gooding Jr. and Tom Berenger has everything to make itself average. While the storyline itself isn't new or original, it does succeed to interest and entertain, though its nothing special. The Pacing of the story can be a little slow and dull, but it picks up at various times. The acting is good, not great, but good. Cuba and Tom both do a job well done, and definitely did their best with what they had to work with. All in all just okay, if you are interested in it, or in any of the cast, I'd recommend it, but if average legal thrillers aren't your thing, skip it. My Rating- 6/10 Rated R-Language, nudity, a scene of strong sexuality and some violence
Daniel The movie begins nice enough. Out hero, the lawyer Lawson Russell played Cuba Gooding Jr. gets his lawyer license revoked and his life changed when he can't stand defending an obviously guilty sex-murderer. He throws comments at his own defendant in trial and yet the defendant goes free.Step forward one year. Lawson is working primarily as a fisher guide, taking fishermen out. After not too long, they befriend, and the old man tells him about this novel he has made but not yet published, he gives him a copy, and dies of a heart attack not too much later. Lawson, being and unsuccessful writer himself, decides to publish the old mans novel in his own name.Though suddenly it seems that the murders and happenings in the book already has happened...And from there it goes downhill, really. First of all, i think the atmosphere in the movie is way too light for the message it gives, which is, that justice is unfair, if you have the right means and money. The movie would have been way more successful with a more serious Cuba Gooding Jr., but its not his fault, the scriptwriters did a too good job to portray him as a cocky and sometimes quite arrogant character. And sure, it would be okay... but i feel it still doesn't match the rest of his behavior (i.e selling another mans book as himself is not quite the idealist you'd expect from a man that is so just and cause in the beginning of the movie)Another fault is the obvious technical errors that occur through the movie. I'm not going to spoil the ending (and if i told, i would) but if you've seen a fair share of CSI and/or other crime lab shows, you would know that there are more evidence than the true hypothetic ones (for example, who held the gun and so forth)To conclusion, I really wanted to like this movie, but i really couldn't enjoy it because of different kinds of error that ruins the way the plot is kept up. With another tone of the movie, and a little less trying to put everything on the sharp edge, it would be way better. 5/10
