Excellent adaptation.

A film with more than the usual spoiler issues. Talking about it in any detail feels akin to handing you a gift-wrapped present and saying, "I hope you like it -- It's a thriller about a diabolical secret experiment."
Eric Stevenson
I think there was some other sequel to "A Christmas Story" but this is the only one with a "2" in the title so I'll just review this. Well, this is the end of Christmas Month. I couldn't find enough Christmas movies for the full month. I'll start next with Book Month! Anyway, this film is bad because it lacks all the heart of the original. The premise just doesn't work as Ralphie was so charming as a little kid.It doesn't have nearly the sense of timelessness as the original. The characters in this are just plain annoying. I especially hate Ralphie's friends because they're so dumb. These guys do such incompetent things on their jobs like putting one's mouth through a tube for no reason other than to reference the first movie. I personally didn't find it as bad as "The Sandlot 2" but it's still devoid of sense, especially with how this family somehow affords a car at the end. *1/2

Of course it can't hold a candle to the magic of the original movie, but it's far better than the endless dribble of bad Santa movies and predictable Hallmark Channel holiday eye-candy. Ralphie is 16 and has discovered girls and cars and Randy is into "Buck Rogers". The old man is as stubborn, cheap, and obstinate as ever. (Played by a chubby Daniel Stern.) Many good ideas are revisited: "Flick" gets his tongue stuck in the pneumatic delivery tube. "Higbee's Dept. Store", the elves and a surly Santa. The worst coal-belching furnace in Indiana. (Actually shot entirely in Canada) Oh yes, this time poor Randy gets the embarrassing Christmas outfit from the eccentric aunt. He looks like the "Cracker Jack" Sailor Boy! A good reproduction of everything from the house to the street to even the fishnet leg lamp! It tries very hard and is mildly entertaining but, as noted in other reviews, many of the young viewers probably haven't seen the far superior Bob Clark Classic. Ralphie has a crush on a young actress-fashion model playing the high school heart-throb. I miss the Bumpus Hounds! Worth-a-look on cable but sure not a keeper. It went straight-to-video, of course.

This movie was awful. Over acting, horrible script, and it did a great dis-service to the original movie. The only worse than this was the Star Wars Holiday Special.I recommend NEVER watching this. If you own a copy, burn it. With any hope it will only have mention of it on IMDb.com and people will wonder if it was any good. I hope that the actors can successfully ignore the fact that they were in this film. It must have been directed at 7 year old kids. Funny thing is that you can make a movie for kids and not have it suck so bad that parents burn it. DO NOT WATCH THIS MOVIE. Your life will be better having never seen it.

I just adored this movie! My brother and I have been watching A Christmas Story every year since 94' and we agree this is a awesome sequel! It won't disappoint you if your a fan as well! The story line is fun and the characters are actually VERY funny. I'm honestly quite surprised that Im writing a review I never have before but due to the fact that part one is such a classic and one of the only movies I'm dedicated to watching every year I thought it only appropriate. How many classics are followed by successful sequels?? This one!!! Even though the mother doesn't look much like the first Christmas Story mom she definitely makes up for it with her charm...as a matter of fact if you don't think anyone looks true to character it honestly does not matter! That is how impressed I am with these characters and this movie. A Definite Christmas movie must have.
