A Boy and His Dog Audience Reviews

ReaderKenka Let's be realistic.
JinRoz For all the hype it got I was expecting a lot more!
Acensbart Excellent but underrated film
Raymond Sierra The film may be flawed, but its message is not.
nickboldrini A flawed film, but an important addition to the genre, as its style and themes were more day to day (getting food, getting laid) than high concept sci fi films. The relationship between the two main characters (Boy and Dog) is a classic buddy type tale. Amoral anti- heroes, as they are, they are still a likeable pair. The film has limited special effects, and some of the sets look dated to modern eyes, but the lack of special effects also means this ages overall relatively well.
Filmbufftwerp This was fairly funny and well written, in a writerly sense, but what was supposed to be the emotional turn at the end didn't land for me because of the scripts, the movies, woman problem. So World War III just happened and the world's population and society as a whole were decimated, not to mention the fact that there aren't many women around to have sex with. And that's were Don Johnson comes in, or doesn't come in. With the help of his trusty dog, who he plies with food, he goes around looking for a woman to bang. He eventually finds one...and that leads to some unexpected consequences. Don Johnson is good in his seedy main role, and the dog steals the show. It has some novel scenes and fresh interplay between the Don and the Dog. Overall, the movie is witty and has some fun moments...but that's where the good words end...You can't have your lead character treat woman as only sex objects and then ask me to believe that he had any sort of relationship with the main female character. I didn't buy for a second that the girl had any emotional investment in him, nor did I believe that he ever saw her as anything more than a pin cushion, as nothing he did spoke to the contrary. So the notion that his relationship with his dog in any way grew thanks to the "relationship" with the woman was asinine. That brings me to what this movie was really about. An exercise in woman hating...and ultimately, that they're beneath dogs (and if you've seen the movie, you know what I mean). Other than that, there wasn't much else doing in this movie. It had a very small cast and very thin plot. The theme, as it were, sucked. It didn't work and along with the treatment of women sucked, there goes that word again, most of the enjoyment out of what was otherwise a decent little character driven post apocalyptic sci-fi movie.I've nothing against cruel and mean spirited movies, even if they aren't witty like this film is, as long as they have something to say. This film has nothing worthwhile to say, nothing defensible to argue for. It's just misogynist lit porn brought to film.
robofin having been a Harlan Ellison fan from the start.I had to see this in'75 when it showed up at our underground(indie)theater.was stunned at the end when most of the audience didn't "get" the ending. don't want to spoil,so will just say it puts everything in perspective.having read a fair amount of these reviews it is very evident that satire, humor and Ellison's biting wit are misunderstood.probably by the under 40 crowd who have been mind-wiped by their (mostly)crappy superhero/spoofs(no fangs like true satire)and their electronic umbilical cords.the screamers are mostly women,by their screen UN.this is so much a sign of the times.granted Vic is a horrible young man,but he honestly doesn't know any better and blood is trying to re=educate him.on the other hand in the event of a dystopian world this is to be expected. wonder how many of the bad reviewers are glued to hunger games,50 shades and walking dead..misogynistic much.fair-play to all.and seriously its entertainment not a life guide.have had a copy on VHS since it was released and guard it well, glad to see it was released on bluray.
SnoopyStyle It's 2024 after World War IV devastated the earth. Vic (Don Johnson) roams the desolate landscape with his smartaleck telepathic dog Blood scavenging for food and females. They track down a female Quilla June Holmes (Susanne Benton) hiding in her underground bunker. Blood doesn't like her. Her father Lou Craddock (Jason Robards) had sent her above ground to lure men down under where fertility has dwindled. Everybody wears paleface in a 1950s American small town society. Vic is going to be used as a stud but it's not as fun as it sounds. It's a weird unrealism. Some of it is a little funny. Then a lot of it is too weird. The underground world is too ridiculous. It takes me out of the movie. In the same time, it's not funny enough. It's very rapey which needs some much better jokes to ridicule it. This indie is definitely out there and I admire trying to take weird turns. It just needs to be funnier for it to work.
