Due to political pressure from the American public, the Air Force has decided to allow two well-known reporters limited access to the most secretive base on the planet. But when one of the base’s “long-term visitors” exploits this unprecedented visit as a chance to liberate himself and his fellow alien captives, Area 51 turns from a secure government base to a horrifying destination of terror.

Dorathen Better Late Then Never
Brainsbell The story-telling is good with flashbacks. The film is both funny and heartbreaking. You smile in a scene and get a soulcrushing revelation in the next.
Zandra The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.
Beulah Bram A film of deceptively outspoken contemporary relevance, this is cinema at its most alert, alarming and alive.
Wuchak RELEASED TO TV IN 2011 and directed by Jason Connery, "51" (aka "Area 51") chronicles events at the secretive base 80 miles north of Las Vegas (25 miles south of the town of Rachel, Nevada) when the Air Force is compelled by public pressure to allow a group of reporters to visit the base. Horror ensues when a few aliens imprisoned in the hidden underground complex attempt an escape. The tone is mostly serious, but with a slight campy vibe in the first act. The plot is akin to "Aliens" (1979) except on a TV budget and taking place at a desert military facility. Three kinds of aliens are included: an interesting Super-Adaptoid-like one, a wicked-monster type featuring child and mother (Lady Death) and a smaller, kindly one with psychic powers. All three are pretty well done for a TV movie. Unfortunately, the group of reporters is thoroughly dull; the actors are serviceable, but their characters (as written) are forgettable. The only character I found interesting was Sgt. Hanna, played by petite cutie Rachel Miner.Overall, the proceedings are kinda "Meh," but not without some interesting points.THE FILM RUNS 90 minutes and was shot in the studio in Louisiana combined with some desert locations (I don't know where though). WRITERS: Kenny Yakkel (screenplay) & Lucy Mukerjee-Brown (story).GRADE: C
liveformyson I was unfortunate to turn this on while channel surfing and was hoping something was on the SciFi channel. Does the director or anybody on the set not have any Military background??? Air Force uniforms of that issue, are not authorized to have a white t-shirt to be worn. Director if you will please check out http://www.af.mil/shared/media/epubs/afi36-2903.pdf or the older AFI/AFR 35-10 for the next time you direct a movie portraying Air Force personnel. If they were wearing the Post 90's olive drab uniform it is acceptable but not in a camouflage uniform. Other than the distraction of the blinding white t-shirt the movie was OK.
Matt Winstanley First of all, all i heard about this film was that it was terrible and there was nothing good about it, and then when i found out it was made by SYFY it made me doubt it more, well i was surprised to be honest about it. It was quite good.I think i enjoyed it because i expected the worst so it could only get better from that.yes the aliens do look cheesy and low budget but it is in fact a fun film, you just have to accept it for what it is and don't take it to serious,The acting is about 7 out of 10, some of the actors didn't really do a good job about it but on the other hand there was some good acting to.A decent body count, with some decent kills in it too. Some aspects in the film we're laughable to be honest, but that is what i did, i just laughed, this is probably why i enjoyed it haha,
trashgang I follow the After Dark series and I know that many people do complain about the entries. Some are good but most of them aren't. This is the most hated one in the new issue of After Dark and I must agree. From second one you know what you will get, SyFy, yes, not known for quality. Although that I must admit that the effects this time were rather good. But the flick fails completely in script. After the SyFy logo we see a journalist standing before the fences of Area 51. They really looked stupid but not only that, she's standing before a green key. If you watch closely you can see that even the key being made to cut out the green wasn't perfect at all. I have my picture before the gates of Area 51 and it isn't what is shown here. Nevertheless, back to the movie. It's okay to tell a story about Area 51 but when it becomes really ridiculous then you know that you are in deep sh*t. Come on, an alien talking English? And just look what they did with the story, first it's an attack by a baby alien, of course that you could see coming. The mother itself do looks like the aliens from Xtro. On the other hand they even ripped-off Alien. There's a shot were a soldier is facing the head of the alien, it's like the one of Ripley facing the alien, just the same, dripping teeth included. The acting couldn't convince me too, it was all a bit to cliché. John Shea was just standing there and almost didn't do anything except at the end. Bruce Boxleitner (remember Tron)wasn't convincing too. They even tried to make the flick believable by adding the so-called room were the Roswell alien was dissected. But the talking alien entered that room and it ruined it all. It just bored me a lot, why does this is included in the After Dark series is an enigma for me. If there wasn't a bit of gory shots I would recommend it to my 10 year old child. Let Area 51 just be Area 51.Gore 0,5/5 Nudity 0/5 Effects 2/5 Story 1/5 Comedy 0/5
